BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A man was shot after he attempted to rob another man with a knife on November 11, according to the Brunswick Police Department.

Police responded to the 1700 block of Stonewall Street in reference to Marvin Smith III being shot in the abdomen.

Smith was transported to South East Georgia Regional Medical Center and was unable to answer police questions at the time due to his medical condition.

Police said they were contacted by Jarrell Warren of Brunswick admitting that shot Smith in self-defense.

Warren explained that Smith tried to rob him at knife point.

A statement from a witness confirmed Warren's story and police then issued a warrant for Smith's arrest.

He was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, and criminal gang activity prohibited on November 17.

No charges are being considered against Warren at this time.
