PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A deputy with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office has been terminated for violating department policy, the Sheriff's Office told First Coast News' partner the Florida Times-Union.

Deputies were called to a home in Interlachen, Florida, for a possible burglary in progress the evening of September 29.

Deputy Brandon Culbreth, saw a truck leaving the area, and attempted to pull the driver over.

Culbreth says the driver tried to flee. The driver hit a fence, and ultimately drove the vehicle back towards Culbreth.

The deputy fired several rounds, which stopped the truck.

Maj. Johnny Greenwood told the T-U, Culbreth, who has been with the Sheriff's Office for two years, violated the department's vehicle-pursuit and use-of-force policies.

The T-U says that Culbreth had the vehicle tag number and saw the driver. But, he continued the pursuit without sufficient details of the crime or vehicle description, which caused the fleeing vehicle to maneuver through residential yards.

According to the T-U, The investigation showed Culbreth fired as the truck was passing or had already passed him in an attempt to flee.
