ORLANDO, Fla. -A fleeing home invasion suspect struck a power pole and knocked out power to dozens of customers on Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

Deputies said the man stole the car during the home invasion.

The incident happened on Silver Star Road at Kingsland Avenue near Evans High School.

Silver Star Road is shutdown while investigators look into the crash.

According to officials, it began when at about 9 p.m. Monday when the suspect, reportedly a teenager, was seen idling in front of a Radian Circle home. As the resident and her three grandchildren showed up for dinner, the home invader knocked on the door, said he was armed, demanded cash and took the keys to the car.

As detectives continued to investigate the home invasion, a deputy spotted the car at a drive thru at about 3 a.m. and turned on the cruiser's lights.

Officials said that is when the culprit sped off, allegedly reaching speeds of up to 90 mph.
The home invasion suspect then lost control of the car and crashed into the pole, investigators said. He was trapped inside and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert once he was free.

At one point nearly 40 customers were without power because of the crash, but Orlando Utilities Commission has since repaired the lines.
