JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Police responded to reports of shots fired late Friday night in the Moncreif Park area.

Patrol officers responded to the 1400 block Mitchell Street and found two adult males, both suffering from gunshot wounds to their lower extremities.

Both victims were taken to UF Health Jacksonville for treatment.

According to JSO, the two victims were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated into a shooting. It is unknown at this time which victim was the primary aggressor.

An investigation is ongoing and police are interviewing the victims and searching for witnesses.

Investigators said that a home was inadvertently struck by gunfire during this incident. No one from the home was injured.
