JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A hotel under construction is a 'total loss' after a fire destroyed the wooden framing early Saturday morning.
When members the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department arrived in the 6900 block of 103rd Street around 3:30 a.m., they found the structure completely engulfed in flames with no one inside, said Lt. Mike Peery.
"We had heavy, heavy fire," Peery said. "We had approximately 75 firefighters that were on scene."
It took crews along with 8 fire trucks about 30 minutes to put out the fire burning through the 3-4 story structure.
Peery said authorities have no idea how the fire started.
JFRD has called in Florida State Fire Marshal's office to help with the investigation.
No surrounding buildings were damaged, said Peery.
