JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Asthma is a medical condition that affects many children and families. To help bring awareness to families, the first Donovin Darius Breath of Life Asthma Camp will be held October 19.
Asthma educators with the Community Asthma Program at Wolfson will teach family members how to help children successfully manage asthma. Resources and information from 10-year NFL All-Pro Donovin Darius and other life and success experts will also be available.
The event is free for 100 local children with asthma and their families. It will take place at Everbank field from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"Participants will all receive a stadium tour, C.A.M.P. T-shirt, snacks and lunch," Darius said. "They will break into age-specific groups, as well as groups for siblings and parents, participate in skits with their parents, and take part in outdoor activities such as on-field races and tug of war competitions with their families. Cameras and video devices are welcomed, as there will be ample photo and interview opportunities."
The camp will be hosted by the Donovin Darius Foundation, in partnership with the Community Asthma Program of THE PLAYERS Center for Child Health at Wolfson Children's Hospital and the Jaguars Foundation.
Darius said, "Growing up in a family with a child who has asthma can create a very anxious and unpredictable environment. Being educated about this condition becomes the responsibility and focus of the whole entire family. We will provide pertinent knowledge and instructions on how kids can live a fulfilled life, despite living with asthma. Like all of my camps, the Breath of Life Asthma will give families the information and encouragement they need to fulfill their lives and take it the Next Level."
