JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- After two long days of meeting, the Jacksonville City Council has reached an agreement on the city budget. Mayor Alvin Brown proposed a nearly $1 billion budget that cut spending in several programs.
City Council voted on about 36 amendments to that budget.
The funding of these programs comes at a cost to taxpayers -- a 14% increase in taxes.The millage rate went up from 10.0353 mills to 11.4419 mills. A homeowner with a house valued at $150,000with a $50,000 exemption, taxes would be about $1,144 a year. That's a $140 increase from last year.
