St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Investigators arrived to the scene of an officer involved shooting at 4th Street North in St. Pete Monday evening.

According to a St. Petersburg Police report, the incident happened on 4th Street between Central and First Avenues North around 6:45 p.m. as two officers were dealing with a man who was said to be threatening people with an ax in the area.

As they approached the man, he reportedly charged at one officer while still holding the ax. In response, the officer shot him- causing him to fall to the pavement.

Paramedics responded and reportedly pronounced the suspect dead on the scene.
