JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --A Jacksonville council member said he's trying to get something done at a dangerous intersection.
A 16-year-old girl and her mom were hit trying to cross San Jose Boulevard at Haley Way in Mandarin Friday. The mother died.
Matt Schellenberg said he has already met with JSO and the Florida Highway Patrol. He said there's an obvious problem - and it boils down to timing.
"It takes longer than 15 seconds to walk across four lanes of traffic a turn lane and another 3 lanes of traffic," he said.
Schellenberg has been in office since July of 2011. He told First Coast News he first learned of a problem on San Jose Boulevard Friday morning - hours before the fatal crash.
"I recognized the problem -- we need to do something about it", he added.
