COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- The fate of a Brunswick teenager is now in the hands of a jury.
De'Marquise Elkins, 18, is on trial for the March 13 shooting death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago in Brunswick.
Prosecutors say Elkins murdered the child after attempting to rob his mother, Sherry West.
Superior Court Judge Stephen Kelley moved the trial from Brunswick to Cobb County outside Atlanta because of heavy pretrial publicity.
Friday morning marked the trial's tenth day in session and began with closing arguments from the defense.
The state followed with its closing arguments before Kelley read instructions to the jury.
The jury is made up of 15 people total, but only 12 will deliberate a verdict.
Three people served as alternates.
Elkins' mother, Karimah Elkins, is also on trial on charges of lying to police and tampering with evidence.
The same jury will deliberate a verdict in her case.
First Coast News will have coverage on-air and online as soon as a verdict is reached.
