GLYNN COUNTY, Fla. -- This week First Coast News is taking you to Glynn County, to the largest of the Golden Isles, St. Simons Island.
The rich history of the town dates back to the 1500s as evident by Fort Frederica. You can walk around the old town and see old artifacts as well as get a glimpse into life 300 years ago.
The actual fort is on the Frederica River, making it easy to see if the Spanish were coming.
On the south side of the island you have the lighthouse, which you can take the 129 steps up to the top. You may also visit the museum and gift shop inside
Next to the lighthouse and museum is Neptune Park. There are many old oak trees in the park which give shade to visitors, residents and vacationers who want to sit and enjoy the quiet waters.
If it's shopping you're looking for the downtown area is full of shops for you and your family. We asked you on Facebook your favorite part of St. Simons Island, Barbara Jeans of downtown was on that list.
If you are looking for the beach, there are two public beaches on the island, Massingale Park Beach and Coast Guard Station Beach. Both offer stunning views of the Atlantic.
And of course, we're in Georgia, where you can get your Georgia peaches at farmers markets all over the island.
These are just a few reasons why you call St. Simons Island home
