Less than a week after a DUI arrest, rapper DMX has filed for bankruptcy.
According to the Wall Street Journal's Bankruptcy Beat column, the creator of such late '90s/early 2000s hits as Party Up (Up in Here) owes $1.24 million in child support and more than $21,000 on an auto lease.
A representative for the rapper says the filing is part of a financial reorganization that will allow DMX to tour Europe and Africa later this year.
"DMX's financial strains have been inhibiting his career for several years," Domenick Nati said in a statement to the Journal. "Poor financial management by prior representation have caused him to be ineligible to retain a passport."
DMX was charged with DUI by the South Carolina Highway Patrol Friday night after being seen driving erratically Thursday night.
