CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A Broward County man was arrested today by Cape Coral Police Narcotics Detectives for trafficking marijuana out of a home located at 4520 SW 12th Place.

Cape Coral Police executed a search warrant on the home and arrested Ricardo Cardenas, 32, who was inside. Detectives found an elaborate marijuana growing operation inside of the home along with 241 pounds of marijuana and equipment used to grow the drug.

Cardenas had rented the Cape Coral home and came to check on it routinely, police said. Cardenas who admitted that the marijuana plants and grow house equipment were his.

He was also charged with operating a grow house and possession of paraphernalia.

"Our community simply doesn't accept that a person can live in Hollywood, Fla., come rent a house in a Cape Coral neighborhood and begin producing hundreds of pounds of drugs. This isn't your casual, personal use, pot smoker. This is a dangerous criminal enterprise that has already proven deadly in our city, said Lieutenant Tony Sizemore of the Cape Coral Police Department.
