CHESTERFIELD, Mo. -- A family in Chesterfield is taking a bold step to exterminate an infestation of venomous spiders.
The venom from brown recluse spiders can cause serious pain and health problems. So this week, an extermination company will attempt to wipe them out.
In March, Tom and his pregnant wife Sheri Kaiman hired pest control when they found brown recluse spiders in their home.
"It's terrifying." It really is," says Sheri Kaiman. "You're constantly worried and shaking out clothes and going through toys. It's just scary."
Experts say the problem is no matter how many times you treat for them, brown recluses are extremely resilient arachnids and total extermination is almost impossible.
On Thursday, as part of a radical treatment for the area, pest control manager Tim McCarthy and his team will cover this entire home with a tent and flood it with eradicating fumes, hopefully killing all insects.
McCarthy says the process will take three days with a full team and somewhere in the ballpark of $3,000 to $5,000.
"We just live like we did before we knew we had them. Comfortably," Kaiman said.
