JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- 'River Ruckus' made a loud splash Saturday. The family event took place on the St. Johns River, which was hosted by the St. Johns Riverkeeper and the Riverside Arts Market.
Throughout the day a variety of activities for all ages took place including a celebrity jump into the river, live music, SweetWater Brewing Co. beer tastings, river crafts for kids, and flotilla of watercrafts, a boat decorating contest. The Riverside Arts Market had crafts, produce, and food.
Shannon Blankinship, St. Johns Riverkeeper Outreach Director, says, "Despite the importance of the St. Johns to our community, there aren't many events focused on celebrating and enjoying our river. We are trying to provide that opportunity and hope everyone will come out, have fun, and Raise a Ruckus for the River!"
The event displays the different river activities and the importance of respecting, protecting, and having fun on the river.
"Our location under the canopy of the Fuller Warren Bridge, and on the St. Johns, plays a huge role in making RAM such a unique entertainment venue for North Florida families and visitors to our city," says RAM Director, Krysten Bennett. "It's only natural that we take a day to focus on the river and all it has to offer."
First Coast News' Tim Deegan and VP Programming Bonnie Solloway were among the participants.
