PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. - Four people are behind bars after police busted a suspected check cashing fraud ring.

For two weeks detectives with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office investigated several fraudulent checks cashed at Publix and Hitchock's Supermarkets, according to a release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

According to the PCSO Lindsay Smith, Robert Ostrender, Edward Zaccheo and Bobbie Martin allegedly cashed checks taken from friends, family members are several local businesses.

Smith allegedly obtained several checks from a friend's residence without their knowledge. Smith is accused of sharing the checks with Ostrender and the pair visited several unsuspecting merchants until they were able to cash the checks.

Smith is also suspected of obtaining additional checks from a family construction company which is no longer in business. Smith shared these checks with Martin and Zaccheo. Detectives believe Martin actually printed several checks from a local public school where she worked.

Detective Johnson with the PCSO stated "There have been four people arrested in this case so far. The amount of the checks cashed is approximately $4,600."

Smith and Ostrender were arrested and charged with multiple counts of larceny and fraud June 28. Martin was arrest on the same day in Flagler County and charged with scheming to defraud.

Zaccheo was already incarcerated at the Putnam County Jail on unrelated charges and faces additional charges of larceny and fraud.

A fifth suspect has been identified in this case and charges are pending.
