Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Doris Chen earned a pair of hard-fought wins on Thursday to move into the quarterfinals at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.
Chen, who was co-medalist this week, fended off Allyssa Ferrell, 1-up, in round two before needing 19 holes to best Kris Yoo at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
Chen, the 2010 U.S. Girls' Junior champ, led Yoo for all but three holes in their match. Yoo bogeyed the 15th to fall 1-down, but Chen stumbled to a double bogey at 18 to force extra holes. Chen made par on the first extra hole to advance as Yoo faltered to a bogey.
Anne-Catherine Tanguay held off Krista Puisite, 2-up, and moved on to play Chen in the quarters.
Karen Chung, an AJGA winner this year, needed 21 holes to win her first match Thursday, then ousted Casey Danielson, 2 & 1, to move into the quarterfinals.
Chung will face Julie Yang, who went 20 and 19 holes in her two matches on Thursday.
Raychelle Santos will take on Cindy Ha. Santos won her two matches 4 & 3, then 2 & 1. Ha won her matches 1-up, with the second one going 19 holes.
The final match will pit Krystal Quihuis, the 2013 Winn Grips Heather Farr Classic winner, against Lauren Diaz-Yi. Quihuis rolled to an 8 & 6 victory in the morning, then held on for a 1-up win over Briana Mao in the afternoon. Mao took out last year's winner Kyung Kim, 3 & 2, in the second round.
Diaz-Yi was a 3 & 2 winner in the morning, then a 2-up victor in the afternoon.
The quarterfinal matches are slated for Friday, then semis on Saturday before the 36-hole final slated for Sunday.
