YULEE, Fla. -- An arrest has been made in connection with a Dish Network sub-contractor impersonator, according to a Nassau County Sheriff's Office press release.
The release detailed that Anthony William Gerhold, 41, from Jacksonville, Florida, was targeting Dish Network customers.
When approaching the victims as a sub-contractor, he would try to convince them to upgrade their services including any repairs for one year, which was for approximately $900.
The victims would receive three months free when the victims would sign up with Gerhold. He would tell the victims that the monthly bills would continue to arrive, but to ignore them because it would be corrected in the billing department.
The victims would call directly to Dish Network to speak with a representative when Dish Network advised that the service would be cancelled. The report said that the company informed them that what they signed was fraudulent and Dish Network never received any payment for satellite service or repair.
"There have been at least seven known individuals victimized so far in Nassau County, but the suspect stated there may be as many as 45, so anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this scheme, please contact NCSO at 904-225-5174," said Sheriff Bill Leeper.
Gerhold has also been arrested in Alachua and Columbia Counties for the same scheme. He is charged with seven counts of schemes to defraud and exploitation of an elderly person.
