UPDATE 6/20/13: The man has been identified as TC Carr and is still in the hospital.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A man who was body surfing in Anastasia State Park Saturday is in critical condition after he nearly drowned.

According to St. Johns County Fire and Rescue, the man was body surfing around 5 p.m. when a wave knocked him over.

A companion who was in the water with him 50 yards offshore noticed something was wrong and notified a lifeguard, according to SJCFR.

The lifeguard was able to rescue the man, but when he pulled him from the water the man was under cardiac arrest, unresponsive and without a pulse, according to Lt. Bob Snell.

The lifeguard performed CPR and was able to resuscitate the man.

The victim was then taken to Flagler Hospital in critical condition, but was able to breath on his own.
