NAVAL STATION MAYPORT, Fla. -- First Coast News is kicking off a new segment to recognize the heroism and good deeds being done by our men and women in uniform on the First Coast.

In our first edition of "Salute Your Troops" FCN would like to recognize Airman Beret Dunn at Naval Station Mayport. She has been in the Navy for a year and a half and works in air traffic control.

Airman Dunn also volunteers with CSADD, which stands for Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions.

The group helps teach junior sailors how to deal with difficult situations and issues like alcohol or "spice" and make positive decisions.

She said she feels it is very important to mentor young sailors.

"I feel like having the organization gives them a safe place to go to and know that they will have us to back them up and teach them," tells Airman Dunn.

She said she knew she wanted to be in the Navy after doing Navy Jr. ROTC in high school and she hopes to someday become an officer.

So if you know a man or woman in the military that is outstanding; whether it be in their volunteer work, or an incredible act of courage, FCNwants to tell their story.

Email us at and put "Salute Your Troops" in the subject line.
