Jacksonville, Fla. -- Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Departmentis reporting that two homes were struck by lightning on Monday during severe weather that traveled through the area.
According to Tom Francis of JFRD, at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, a house in the 6500 block of Ginnie Springs Road as struck by a bolt of lightning. No injuries were reported.Damage was confined to a 2 foot area of the roof.
Francis also reports that a two-story house in the 4500 bock of Carrara Court was also struck by lightning at 5:17 p.m. Heavy smoke was seen billowing from the roof.
It took 30 minutes for JFRD to contain the fire. No one was inside the residence when the fire broke out following the lightning strike. No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $30,000 due to the value of the house.
