JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Marcus Threadcraft, 18, is a shining example of student excellence on the First Coast. He has a weighted GPA of a 4.78 at Stanton College Preparatory School and is involved in all kinds of volunteer work.
"Two years ago a friend approached me about Hands On Jacksonville, they have a youth leadership council and the youth leadership council puts on events for youths in the city and we can give back," tells Marcus.
Marcus also uses his time to try and help the homeless by volunteering at the City Rescue Mission and the Clara White Mission.
His mother Alma, who nominated him, said she could not be prouder of her son.
"I am truly blessed, he has always been good. He excels in his academics and he has a heart for helping others, I am so pleased with him and so blessed," says Alma with a smile.
He is going to put the $1,000 to good use. He is headed to the University of Miami in the fall to study medicine.
"My mother is the only survivor of cancer in my family, so that has definitely touched me and it has really gotten in my heart to want to go into Oncology and hopefully try and find a cure for cancer," says Marcus.
