JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A bomb squad team with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to a "suspected device" early Wednesday morning.

According to Lt. Jimmy Riggs with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a resident in the area of Shadow Creek Road and Glenn Hollow Drive called in a suspicious device around 6:32 a.m.

Lt. Riggs also stated at least eight to ten homes were evacuated this morning, although some residents opted to stay indoors and were asked to stay in the rear of their homes.

At this point Lt. Riggs said the suspected device is not a threat to the community and the device is in the process of being rendered safe by law enforcement.

Additionally, JSO has been working with local school district law enforcement since the suspected device has prevented at least nine students from making it to school on time during FCATs.
