LAKE CITY, Fla. --Two Lake City women turned themselves in to authorities on charges of election fraud Tuesday.
Betty Jefferson, 64, and Linda Ivery, 56, turned themselves into the Columbia County Jail and were released on their own recognizance, according to a release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The allegations stem from the election of Eugene Jefferson to the District 10 city council seat.
Jefferson, wife of Eugene Jefferson, and Ivery are accused of fraudulently obtaining absentee ballots and attempted to influence or deceive people into signing the already completed ballots.
Jefferson faces 24 felony and two misdemeanor violations of state election laws and Ivery is charged with six felony and two misdemeanor counts of election law violations.
