ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A meth lab at local hotel found early Tuesday morning caused at least 10 rooms to be evacuated.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office and St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the Days Inn at 2560 S.R. 16 next the Premium Outlets off I-95, according to Chuck Mulligan with the SJCSO.

Deputies on routine patrol noticed suspicious activity at the hotel around 3:30 a.m. and began investigating. Deputies found a car in the parking lot with a tag that was allegedly stolen. A strong chemical odor was noted and a hazmat team was called in, Mulligan detailed.

A meth lab was discovered inside room 242 of the Days Inn, leading to the evacuation of at least 10 rooms.

St. John's County Building Enforcement has condemned three rooms at the Days Inn, room 242 and one room on each side.

Eric Messler, 32 and 32-year-old Tammy Roy, both of St. Augustine, were taken into custody and face charges of producing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver and possession of drug paraphenalia.

A dog was also removed from the hotel room.
