JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An 18-month-old girl is in critical condition after she was found in a retention pond on Monday evening.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office initially responded to the 10800 block of Boddens Road to reports of a missing child, according to Sgt. Jay Farhat.

A family was moving into a house and unpacking boxes and couldn't find their 18-month-old daughter.

Her parents went outside to look for her and a neighbor who overheard them assisted them in the search.

The neighbor then found the girl in a retention pond, pulled her out of the pond and attempted CPR.

According to neighbors the family has only lived in the home for one week. The neighbor who rescued the little girl did not know their new neighbors' name.

Other residents in the area are praying for the little girl.

The girl was transported to Shands in critical condition. No foul play is suspected, Farhat said.
