ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Deputies have three suspects in custody after two men were shot during a suspected drive-by at the Blanding Place Apartments in Orange Park Sunday afternoon, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Marquise Sharrod Roberts, 18, andCalvin Deshun Bolden, 19, are each charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, robbery with an armed firearm and possession of a controlled substance without a valid prescription.
Keila Maria Smith, 18, is charged with robbery with an armed firearm, child neglect without great harm and possession of 20 + grams of marijuana.
The two victims were outside of a residential complex in the 2100 block of Burwick Avenue, when a white sedan approached the building and opened fire. One was hit in the chest the other was struck in the arm by a bullet. Neither of their injuries were considered life threatening, according to Mary Justino, a public information officer with the Sheriff's Office.
Smith, Roberts and Bolden intended to rob the victims of marijuana, according to a CCSO report.
After the incident, deputies stopped a vehicle matching the description witnesses reported, at a gas station located at the corner of Constitution and Blanding Boulevard. It was during the traffic stop they discovered a 2-year-old childin a car seat in the back seat,according to Justino. The child was unharmed.
The Florida Department of Children and Families is also investigating the case.
The driver of the vehicle, a female, was arrested at the gas station. Two men ran from vehicle and attempted to evade deputies. One was arrested after a brief foot chase and the other fled to his apartment at Blanding Place Apartments. Negotiators were able to convince the suspect to surrender to deputies.
No additional information about the child has been released by the Sheriff's Office.
