NASSAU COUNTY, FL.-- A 14-year-old girl has died as a result of an all-terrain vehicle accident that involved a second ATV, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the accidentreport, 14-year-old Erica Smith of Hilliard, was riding on a 2009 Can-Am along witha second ATV rider, 13-year-old Chas Harrison.

The accident occurred justbefore10 p.m. Saturday night on Rayonier's private property.

Florida HighwayPatrol reports that both ATVswere traveling southbound onWoods Road.

Harrisonwas riding ahead of Smith and failed to notice that Harrison had slowed down or stoppedand as a result, Smith struck the second ATV.

The impact caused both riders to be ejected and vehicles to flip over several times, police said.

Chas Harrison suffered minor injuries and according to reports, neither riders were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.
