New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Jordan Swing produced 23 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists to push the UAB Blazers to a 76-71 victory over the Tulane Green Wave in a Conference USA showdown at Devlin Fieldhouse.
While Swing just missed a triple-double, Rod Rucker poured in a game-high 26 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field for UAB (14-14, 6-7 C-USA) as it picked up its third win in a row and fifth in six games.
Ricky Tarrant tallied 25 points and six assists to lead Tulane (18-10, 6-7), which also received 12 points from Ben Cherry. Josh Davis pulled down 13 rebounds for the Green Wave, who had their two-game winning streak snapped.
Although Tulane outscored UAB, 8-0, on fast break points and also, 13-5, in points off of turnovers in the opening 20 minutes, the visitors took a 34-26 lead into the intermission. The Blazers shot 51.7 percent from the field in the first period.
UAB pushed its lead to 50-34 with 13:48 left to play, but Tulane battled back with a 26-6 run to go on top, 60-56, with 5:30 showing on the clock. The Blazers then responded eight unanswered points that put them ahead for good. UAB connected on 66.7 percent of its field goal tries and converted 7-of-8 at the charity stripe in the second half while the Green Wave made it competitive by hitting on 8-of-17 from beyond the arc.
The Blazers enjoyed a 41-29 edge in the rebounding battle. Tulane lost despite outscoring the visitors, 36-8, in points off of turnovers and also, 31-12, in bench points.
