USA TODAY- Mindy McCready's funeral today will be open to the public, her family announced. Earlier reports suggested it would be closed.
The funeral for the troubled country singer, who committed suicide last week at age 37, will be at a Baptist church in Ft. Myers, Fla., her mother, Gayle Inge, said in a statement.
"Mindy's life was public and the family welcomes friends and fans to join them in a celebration of Mindy's life," she said. Her statement emphasized that this is the official family funeral, not the memorial service being planned in Nashville later in the month.
McCready, who was born in Ft. Myers, is survived by her sons, Zander Ryan and Zayne Christopher; her mother and step-father, Gayle & Michael Inge; her father & step-mother, Timothy & Teri McCready; brothers, Timothy McCready, Jr, Joshua McCready, and Colton Skylar Phelan, plus grandmother, nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins. .
Pallbearers will include her three brothers. In lieu of flowers, the family recommended donations to "Mindy McCready Children's Trust" at a bank in Ft. Myers.
