Chattanooga, TN (Sports Network) - Gee McGhee finished with a game-high 24 points to lead the Chattanooga Mocs to a 72-68 victory over the Elon Phoenix in Southern Conference action at McKenzie Arena.
Drazen Zlovaric and Z. Mason each added 10 points for the Mocs (12-17, 7-9 SoCon), who snapped a two-game skid.
For the Phoenix (19-9, 12-4), Ryley Beaumont finished with 20 points, while Sebastian Koch scored 13 points and Jack Isenbarger chipped in with 12 points. The loss for Elon put an end to its four-game winning streak.
Chattanooga took a slim 38-37 lead at the break. It shot 54.5 percent from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the 3-point arc. Elon also had a great shooting half, knocking down 52.2 percent of its field goal tries and 8- of-12 from 3-point range.
After intermission, the Mocs continued to shoot well, making 47.8 percent of their field goal tries, while the Phoenix regressed to just 35.5 percent shooting in the second half. After Elon took the lead early in the half, Chattanooga went back ahead midway through the period and never trailed again. The Phoenix got as close as two in the final seconds, but the Mocs held on for the victory.
Chattanooga outscored Elon at the foul line, 20-10, and won the rebounding battle, 39-25.
