ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Detectives arrested a St. Johns County man Friday on a charge of video voyeurism.
Jerry Lewis Hackney, 36, is accused of using his cell phone to make a video of a woman using a tanning bed at the World Gym on U.S. 1, according to a statement from the St. Johns Sheriff's Office.
An investigation began on Wednesday after a 25-year old woman reported a suspicious incident at the gym, the release states.
Hackney, an employee of the gym, allegedly placed his cell phone in a closet to record people getting in and out of a tanning booth, the release details.
Hackney's cell phone was seized as part of the investigation, the release outlined, in an effort to see if there are any additional victims that were unaware of Hackney's actions.
According to a SJCSO public information officer, Kevin Kelshaw, Hackney was once a reserve officer with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. Because of state law, former and current law enforcement can request to have their photos withheld at the time of arrest.
Putnam County Sheriff's Office also confirmed Hackney was a deputy with the office from October 2006 to December 2007.
Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
