AURORA, Colo. -- On Sunday, two men broke into the Aurora home of Derrick Martin, a safety for the New England Patriots, while his young wife and three small children were inside, 9NEWS has learned.
According to Aurora Police, two masked men came to Martin's door armed with handguns around 8 p.m. They forced their way inside. His home is located near E-470 and East Smoky Hill Road.
A family member says Martin's wife was "terrified." 9NEWS is choosing not to indentify this person or Martin's wife by name for family's safety.
"The one-year-old was in the high chair; he obviously doesn't know anything," a family member said. "[The] three and 4-year-old saw everything, especially the 4-year-old. [They're] traumatized."
Aurora Police say numerous items were taken and numerous items of value were not touched, investigators say. The people in the home were held at gunpoint.
No one was injured during the robbery. There are no suspects at this time, according to police.
"I'm just grateful they're all alive," the family member said. "It was scary to come here and see all the police cars and crime lab. Scary, [you] don't want to see that with your kids no matter how old they are."
Police are not sure if the suspects knew who the house belonged to.
"It is a nice neighborhood. It's like zero crime over here. For that to happen was crazy," the family member said.
"A home invasion of this nature is not a common occurrence," Frank Fania, spokesman for the Aurora Police Department, said. "Two armed men going to innocent victims' house, forcing their way in, pointing guns at people and taking things."
The family says even though Martin is a high profile football player, they're surprised at the media attention this story has gotten.
"That's the weird part. It's strange for us. We're not used to it," a family member said. "Derrick, he's a local guy, went to school here. He's still just my son-in-law. It's odd for us."
Martin is from Denver and played football at Thomas Jefferson High School. He played college football at the University of Wyoming.
Martin won Super Bowls with the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2006.
9NEWS reached out to Martin, but hasn't heard back. Martin's agent had "no comment" on Monday.
