JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- New Jaguars General Manger David Caldwell's first and most important task is to hire a new coach. Here's a look at some of the candidates the Jags will be talking with over the next few days.
Greg Roman, Offensive Coordinator, San Francisco 49ers: Thought to be the favorite, Roman has developed both Alex Smith and now Colin Kaepernick at the quarterback position. He has a longstanding friendship with the GM as well, since they were college roommates.
Gus Bradley, Defensive Coordinator, Seattle Seahawks: Bradley is the architect behind the league's top-scoring defense this year. He's never been a head coach, but is rumored to be highly sought after by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Brian Schottenheimer, Offensive Coordinator, St. Louis Rams: Schotty interviewed for the post last season but was passed over in favor of Mike Mularkey. Hehas alsocalled plays for the New York Jets.
Darrell Bevell, Offensive Coordinator, Seattle Seahawks: Bevell is a longtimeNFL assistant and has had success just about everywhere he has coached. He gets much of the credit for developing Russell Wilson this season in Seattle.
Mel Tucker, Defensive Coordinator, Jaguars: Highly respected throughout the league, but generally considered a long shot because of his ties with a club that's in the process of a major house cleaning.
Jay Gruden, Offensive Coordinator, Cincinnati Bengals:An up and comer, Gruden turned down overtures by the Jags last season. He's the younger brother of former Super Bowl coach Jon Gruden.
