JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The city of Jacksonville is one step closer to makean international splash in swimming.
TuesdayJacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown announcedJacksonvilleis one of sixcities that placed a bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic Swimming Trials.
Mayor Brown says landing the event would bring about 200,000 tourists to the city which couldequal about23 million dollars in revenue.
If the city wins the bidding the swimming trials would be held at Veterans Memorial Arena where a temporarypool would be built inside the arena.
The five other cities bidding for the 2016 U.S. Summer Olympic Swimming Trials are Omaha, San Antonio, Indianapolis, St. Louis and Greensboro,North Carolina.
A decision isexpected to be made by April or May.
