JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - A suspect is in custody following an alleged carjacking attempt near the Bed, Bath & Beyond in Jacksonville Beach.

The suspect, identified by Jacksonville Beach Police as 55-year-old Donnie McClain, was taken into custody on scene, according to a police report from the Jacksonville Beach Police.

According to the carjacking victim, a 66-year-old woman, McClain approached her while she was attempting to get into her vehicle. The 66-year-old told police McClain allegedly said he was "carjacking" her, pointed a gun at her and demanded her car keys. According to police, McClain then physically attacked the 66-year-old woman by punching her in the head and face.

A nearby witness, a 51-year-old woman, claimed to see the attack and stepped in to try to pull the 66-year-old woman to safety. McClain is accused of punching the 51-year-old in the face and allegedly stated he had a gun.

Police said athird witness also intervened. A 63-year-old woman working at a nearby business was allegedly attacked by McClain when she tried to assist the other two women during the attempted carjacking.

The 66-year-old carjacking victim was taken to Mayo Clinic for her injuries.

McClain is charged with carjacking, aggravated battery and two counts of battery.
