JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Lakewood couple is too shaken up to sleep in their own home after their three-year-old daughter was injured in a drive-by shooting Friday night.

The Downeys just moved into a home on Bishop Lane eight months ago -a street home to many families with young children.

"I ride my bike around the neighborhood all the time," says 13-year-old Taylor Malone, who lives just a few houses from the Downeys.

The Lakewood neighborhood is 67 percent safer than other neighborhoods in Jacksonville, according to areavibes, a site that compares crime rates. The average price for a home is about 100-thousand dollars and it's an area residents describe as a quiet community.

"I mean sometimes I leave my door unlocked but no, break-ins, or nothing it's the first time I ever heard of anything like that," says Bill Love, a neighbor.

On Friday shortly after 11 p.m., residents of Bishop Lane experienced a drive-by shooting - one that struck three-year-old Christina Downey in the foot while she was just sitting in her living room with her parents.

"It was just a steady shooting likeeight shots,'tat-tat-tat', but you can tell it was a rifle by the sound of it," says Love.

Michael Downey says his daughter didn't even cry when she was struck. She was released from the hospital the same night.

About 11 bullets hit the house and on Saturday JSO investigators continued collecting evidence that may lead them to a suspect. The shooting comes just a week and a half after a five-year-old was grazed by a bullet in Northwest Jacksonville.

"You know MAD Dads, we're just sad as to what's happening and we want to ask the individuals that are out there doing this to please stop, please stop shooting our children," says Donald Foy, ofJacksonville MAD Dads. "We're asking the community that we've got to take a stand, we can't let it continue to be wild, while children are being traumatized for the rest of their lives," says Foy.

Downey says someone saw a brown SUV leave the neighborhood after the shooting. JSO has not released a vehicle description or further information on the incident.

Anyone with information on the shooting should call Crimestoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
