The game was a closely contested battle at the start, but Kentucky closed out the first half on a 13-4 run to build a 33-24 halftime lead. The Wildcats were in front at the break despite going 1-of-13 from three-point range as Marshall shot 27.6 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
The Thundering Herd hardly improved after halftime and made just 31.3 percent of their field goal attempts in the second period. Kentucky cruised to the victory by hitting 50 percent of its shots from the floor and 15-of-19 at the free throw line in the final 20 minutes of play.
