JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- 1994 was the last time the University Christian Fightin' Christians won a state championship.

Friday at 1 p.m. the Fightin' Christians will get a chance to win the elusive state title when they tackle unbeaten Dade Christian in Orlando.

University Christian was eliminated in the opening round of the state playoffs last season and the players say they used that as motivation during this year's playoff run.

Coach David Penland said unlike a year ago, he's got a dual threat quarterback in senior Tim Betros, who has championship experience.

In fact, Betros won two state championships at Bolles before he transferred to University Christian this season. He decided to come to UC to play with his brother.

A win Friday will bring the program its 7th state title.
