JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The USS Klakring is scheduled to return from its final deployment Saturday.
Bill Austin, Public Affairs Officer for Naval Station Mayport, said the ship and its more than 200 sailors will return after a six month deployment to the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Coast of South America.
During the ship's deployment, Austin said it participated in intelligence surveillance reconnaissance in support of anti-piracy operations. To conduct their reconnaissance, the Navy used unmanned Fire Scout helicopters.
Austin said the Fire Scouts are unmanned aerial vehicles that track and target in battlefields and urban environments.
During the deployment, the Klakring made port visits to Augusta Bay, Sicily, Souda Bay, Crete and Djibouti, Africa.
