MACCLENNY, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say two people were killed and seven were hospitalized by a wrong-way collision on Interstate 10 in northeast Florida.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 47-year-old Emile McPherson Whitney was driving west in the eastbound lane near Macclenny early Friday morning when his SUV crashed into a minivan.
The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/OubFDA) reports that two passengers in the minivan - 37-year-old Kaw Lay and 47-year-old Ta Nu - were killed in the collision. Whitney and six other passengers from the minivan were taken to a Jacksonville hospital. The van's driver - 20-year-old Nge Thay - suffered minor injuries. FHP says the people in the van were returning home to Jacksonville from work at a Lake City restaurant.
It wasn't immediately clear why Whitney was driving the wrong direction. No charges have been reported.
