West Caldwell, NJ (Sports Network) - Paul Simson defeated Curtis Skinner on Thursday to win his second USGA Senior Amateur Championship.
Simson, who was also the 2010 champion, defeated Skinner, 4 & 3, on the 15th hole at Mountain Ridge Country Club to again win the event.
Thursday's championship was all square after both players parred the sixth, but Simson birdied the par-3 seventh to go 1-up. After taking advantage of Skinner's bogey on No. 11 to go 2-up, Simson birdied No. 12 to take a 3-up lead. He then rolled home a 15-foot birdie putt on the 14th to grab a 4-up advantage before matching Skinner's par on No. 15 to secure the win.
On Wednesday, Simson led Stephen Sharpe 5-up after 10 holes in their quarterfinal match. After a 1-hour, 56-minute weather delay, Sharpe decided not to continue and conceded the match to Simson.
In Wednesday afternoon's semifinal, Simson downed Jim Knoll, 3 & 2, to advance.
Skinner, meanwhile, ousted Steve Golliher, 2 & 1, in the quarters, then beat Douglas Hanzel by the same margin in the semifinals.
