FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- The people behind the Amelia IslandConcours d'Elegance have something new planned.
The (Fernandina Beach)News-Leader reports that city commissioners have conceptually approved a vintage-style motoring festival to be held in 2013 at the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport.
Bill Warner and Ralph Thomas made the presentation, which would be modeled after the Goodwood Festival of Speed, held annually in West Sussex, England, according to the News-Leader.
Warner founded the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance 17 years ago to benefit the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. Since its creation, the Concours has raised over $1.8 million, according to the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance website.
The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance also benefits:
Shop with Cops & Cops n' Kids
Duval County 4-H Foundation
Navy Marine Corps Relief Society
If it goes forward, plans call for the new festival to be held in the fall of 2013. The 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance will be held March 8-10 at the Ritz-Carlton.
