JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A First Coast grandfather is just thankful his grandson is alive.
First Coast News spoke with Bill Speer, who lives here in Jacksonville; he has a daughter and a grandson in Denver.
His grandson, Liam, wanted to go to the midnight showing at the Century 16 theater in Aurora, Colorado.
But Liam's mother wouldn't give him the money to go.
3 of his friends went to that theater.
Liam says one of his friends was killed, one is in intensive care, and the other is alright.
"He was broke, thank God, he was broke on Thursday," Speer said.
While Speer hasn't talked to his grandson yet, but says he has been in contact with his daughter.
