MACCLENNY, Fla. -- Baker County has no mosquito control program to handle problems in rural areas, so an emergency request is being made to the state to lend a hand to swat back.
Lt. Adam Faircloth with Baker County's Emergency Management Office says the request for help is beingfavorably received, with results from mosquito traps delivered to Tallahassee on Friday.
Faircloth is optimistic that aerial assistanceis on the horizon within the next seven to ten days to combat the mosquitoes that followed Tropical Storm Debby.
Macclenny has the only fogger in the county and that is for use in the city limits. The county is dependent on outside help following tropical storms when mosquitoes become a big problem.
"Mosquitoes don't discriminate. They are everywhere," said Gloria Sheffield who says she had not seen them as big as they are now.
People inBaker County are beingreminded of the importance of using an insect repellant and removing standing water.
