JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two brothers have been arrested and charged in connection with another man's shooting death, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Chief Tom Hackney announced today.

Jamie Meekins, 35, has been charged with murder and leaving the scene of an accident after Rodney Stone, 28, was shot and left in a car that had been run into a power pole in the 2000 block of Olevia Street in the early morning hours of May 18.

Hackney said the incident was a drug deal/robbery gone bad.

Meekins' brother Shane, 40, is charged with accessory after the fact, as Shane picked up Jamie in a Ford F-150 and drove down Interstate 95 North, Hackney said.

A witness called in a description of the getaway vehicle and a partial tag number, which was broadcast to officers. An officer then located the Ford F-150 near I-10 and McDuff, Hackney said.

During that traffic stop, the officer found blood and a .38 handgun, which they were able to connect to the shooting of Stone. The brothers could not be arrested until Thursday because JSO was waiting for the physical evidence to be processed, Hackney said.

The Meekins brothers are convicted felons, Hackney said. Jamie has past charges of burglary, escape and carrying a concealed firearm. Shane has previous drug charges, burglary charges and prowling.
