JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A bicyclist was struck and killed by an Amtrak train. First Coast News has learned that train was heading to Washington D.C.
The accident happened near Trout River and the Moncrief-Dinsmore area in Northwest Jacksonville.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Homicide Lieutenant Rob Schoonover tells our news partner The Florida Times-Union that the bicyclist rode past the flashing railroad crossing arms, which were down.
Schoonover said the train horn was blowing and witnesses told police the man did not appear to be hurrying to beat the train.
