We often hear accolades about students at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. Today, we have honors for a teacher!

Director of Bands Shawn Barat has accompanied his bands to countless concerts and conferences across the country, including the very prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago.

A local business leader nominated him. Barat is in his sixth year at Douglas Anderson. He said it's been an honor to see students grow and learn.

"We've got seniors getting ready to leave now," Barat said. "When I think back to what they were like as ninth graders, it's almost shocking to see where they started and now we're getting ready to send them out into the world as mature musicians. It's pretty rewarding."

Right now, Barat's preparing to perform at the school's graduation ceremony before preparing to guide another group of students on their journey through high school.
