It's our final Student of the Week for this school year, and very fitting, Kahla Coney is said to often put herself last and the needs of her friends first.
When we caught up with Kahla on her last day of high school, the teen was busy helping in the school office, giving students the morning announcements as she's done all school year.
Kahla also recently ended her year-long reign as "Miss of the School," representing Robert E. Lee High School at conferences, parades and many other functions. With graduation time nearing, we talked to Kahla about starting a new chapter of her life.
"It's kind of a relief, but then I'm kind of sad. I'm going to miss ... this is all I've known for 18 years, so I am going to miss it," Kahla said. "But I'm excited to be going on to Bethune-Cookman where I'll be attending my freshman year of college."
Kahla was nominated by for Student of the Week by a classmate. She plans to study mass communications at college.
Thanks to everyone who has submitted both Student of the Week and Teacher of the Week nominations this year. Also, congratulations to everyone who has been recognized this school year.
Keep sending those nominations and we'll recognize more deserving students and teachers when school starts again in August.
