JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- Authorities have released the name of the man who died inthe Turtle Crawl Triathlon on Jekyll Island Saturday morning.

According to the Georgia State Patrol,Christopher Petty, 44 has died.

A Georgia State Patrol operatorsaid theinitial callwasfor a cardiac problem and thatPettymay have drowned, butan official cause has not been determined.

An operator with Georgia State Patrol said an autopsy will be performed Monday.

Eric Garvey of the Jekyll Island Authority confirmed a 44-year-odl man was rescued from the water by lifeguards. He says they started CPR but the man died at Southeast Georgia Health Systems Hospital in Brunswick.

Garvey said four to six people were pulled out of the water, but that is an average number during the triathlon, which is in its tenth year.

Garvey said there were 700 people involved in this year's event.

The state patrol also declined to provide the man's identity because of uncertainty on whether his next of kin was aware of his death.

The Turtle Crawl offers competitors a choice of Sprint or longer Olympic distances. Competitors in the Sprint competition swim a quarter mile and those in the Olympic competition swim about 1.5 miles.

The bicycling and running portions of the triathlon were completed.
